On Saturday 14th of May the new tourism season was launched with a diverse events programme. On significant tour-trip was launched from the tourism information centre of the Kevava municipality in the morning of that day. The tour-trip went to the church of Katlakalns, looked at the tree nursery groves, visited the local history museum of Kekava, but the delightful snacks were provided by the farm of Dorites. The tour-trip was concluded at the Hillfort of Daugmale where they joined with the rest of the participants celebrating the event of Daugmale Hillfort.
At the end of the tour-trip the participants were very thankful – the tour trip and the event itself revealed how interesting and attractive the area they live in is. The event of Daugmale Hillfort was a reason for many of the locals to pay the first visit to the site. Organisers of the event argue that the six-hours long celebration programme was attended by approximately three hundred people mostly locals, people living in the municipality of Kekava, neighbours from Salaspils, Riga and elsewhere. For instance, the Rozklani family from Salaspils, visited the Hillfort for the first time - “We read the information and decided to take on the opportunity to spend today outdoors”. The event of Daugmale Hillfort is an event for the whole family, thus the family of Rozkalni expressed a wish that this event would become a good tradition in the future. Most attention from the visitors was earned by the exhibition of ancient fights, a mock-siege of the Hillfort, archery and javelin ranges were a place of attraction for children and adults alike, as well as the local produce was quite popular – honey, pottery products and jewellery. Unfortunately, due to the high winds, the trip on an authentic Viking boat Pardus was not possible. Also, a hype was generated among the visitors by the central event of the night of 14th May – Museum nights’ event Kaimini at the local history museum of Kekava. The evening brought together almost 500 visitors, who were offered to take part in interesting and well-witted contests and competitions, treat themselves with the kebab of neighbours, see museum exhibition free of charge, take a trip on a droshka and to see the play Kaimini by Miltu teatris.
