Funding granted for the project Discovering common cultural heritage in the crossroads of Europe PDF Print E-mail

Europe for Citizens Programme

On May 15, 2012 the project Discovering common cultural heritage in the crossroads of Europe, submitted by the Ķekava district municipality for the Europe for Citizens programme measure Town twinning citizens’ meetings was ratified. The total budget of the project is 25 000 EUR.


The aim of the project is to establish the tradition of Daugmale castle mound festival developing it into an annual, international event, which would attract the attention of not only the locals, but also the people from whole Latvia and from other countries as well.

The project will involve the organization of Daugmale castle mount festival and one-day seminar on the identification and research of the cultural heritage. The theme of the seminar – Daugava waterway and the castle mounds of Daugava coast. The project will involve participants from 8 countries – Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Finland, Rumania, Poland and Germany, represented by municipalities, non-governmental organizations, historic clubs and history reconstruction organizations. The seminar is planned on June, 15, while the Daugmale castle mound festival will take place on June, 16 -17.
